    Update "preorder4" - 7/12/2012

    Hey everyone!

BIG update this time! We're very pleased to present to you the next chapter of Wrack - E1M4! The new map includes a ton of new stuff - a brand new texture set, new music, new monsters... it's really pretty sweet! So, if you were wondering why there haven't been a lot of updates recently... this is why!

Here's a full list of what's new in this update:

    ADDITIONS/UPGRADES

    • ADDED A NEW MAP - E1M4 - "Recycling Center - Part 1"! This includes new music, a new texture set, and lots of other new stuff!
    • Added a new main text font! Text looks much better in the game now!
    • Started adding a new HUD! It's incomplete, but this should give you an idea of how it will end up looking.
    • Added a new monster - the kamikaze! You can find them on E1M4.
    • Added a new monster - the spread shot arcturan! You can find them on E1M4.
    • Added a new monster - the autofire turret! These turrets fire continuous shots straight ahead. (Also on E1M4).
    • Added a new miniboss - Zombo! He appears at the midpoint of E1M4. He is largely unfinished ATM.
    • Added a new powerup - the guardsphere! This reduces damage taken by 75%.
    • Updated the turret texture! They look much better now!
    • Updated the breakable crate textures. They're still being worked on.
    • Reduced the shading on turrets making them much easier to see.
    • Moved wall_glass1.png to the "e1common" texture folder from the "e1m2" texture folder.
    • Renamed the "screenshot" command to "vid_screenshot".
    • You can now bind a screenshot key in the controls settings menu.

    FIXES

    • Fixed a rendering bug involving skybox view portals and transparent faces.
    • When cycling through brightness, it now loops back to 1.0, instead of 0.0.
    • Removed the old menu graphics which are no longer used.

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to the download page and get it now!

Best map so far in my opinion. Big rooms with a lot of stuff happening, the new enemy can be tricky - especially around the corner like in the big crusher room.
The spreadshot arcturan killed me a few times as well (bullshit difficulty). The game is becoming challenging!

    Can't wait for e1m5.

Where? There's barely any places where you can sneak up on them. Don't know of any places where it'd be useful anyway. Though now that I think about it, you could still do the jump - you'd just get damaged in the process, and probably blown upwards. I can think of stuff you can skip on E1M4 using that :P

decino: Thanks man! Glad you (and everyone else) are enjoying it so much!

After playing a bit, the Kamikazies are not so bad.
The new font is lovely and suits the game.
I didn't really notice the new turret texture though.

    E1M4 feedback:

    • The textures are a bit garish due to the high color contrast, but at the same time I like them.
    • The new boss goes down to the pulsar too easily, its behavior seems like it'll be okay, but it's really easy to avoid taking any damage from it.
    • I think the safety zones between the crushing walls and slag pits could be a bit wider; they're wide enough, but I still felt like I had to stand too close to the crusher or pit.
    • I don't like the shake effect when the crushing ceiling lowers; it looks like the floor is rising for some reason.
    • The Mega Man inspiration is becoming more apparent than the Doom inspiration. (Actually I've thought the same thing from the first playthrough trailers)

    A little feedback:
The big robot things aren't really placed well. In the early levels they were threatening because you had to fight them in confined spaces, but here it's way too easy to run away. I also fell through the floor in the part with the crushing ceiling, no idea how I managed that one though.

Cool level, though really enjoyed it.

I fixed that bug in the next update. Keep your eyes peeled for that happening again, but it should be fixed.
